Faculty Spotlight: Lauren Roth

Professor Lauren Roth's work-in-progress, Cause of Death, was "enthusiastically received" at the Health Law Scholars Workshop held from September 28 to 30, 2023 in St. Louis, according to Professor Sidney Watson from the Center for Health Law Studies at Saint Louis University School of Law, which co-sponsored the event with the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics. The Health Law Scholars Workshop is a collegial forum in which faculty new to health law and bioethics scholarship present works in progress and receive in-depth advice and critique from experienced scholars and teachers in the field of health law and bioethics.

During a two-hour session, Professor Roth presented her work to 17 senior faculty and three other junior scholars.  "The commentators provided a multi-disciplinary perspective grounded in health law, medicine, nursing, public health, economics, sociology, and health care ethics." Professor Roth's article on problems resulting from incomplete information on death certificates about cause of death, particularly harm to vulnerable populations, was recognized for its ability to add "significantly to the scholarship."
