Touro Law to Host Public Interest/Government Career Fair

Annual Event to be Held February 5, 2013 for Touro Law Students and Alumni

December 18, 2012

Touro Law Center’s Office of Career Services in conjunction with the Public Advocacy Center will host the sixth annual Touro Law Public Interest/Government Career Fair on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 12:30 – 5:30 pm at the law school. More than 100 non-profit and government agencies were invited to participate in the event, most of which are Long Island organizations. The event is open to Touro Law students and alumni at no charge.

“This job fair is a great opportunity to demonstrate the depth and breadth of public interest and government jobs to the Touro Law community and has a proven record of success,” said Thomas Maligno, Director of Public Interest and Executive Director of the Public Advocacy Center at Touro Law. “Each year nearly 100 job offers, both permanent and summer, are offered to Touro Law students and alumni as a result.”

Touro Law offers financial aid, work study and Fellowship opportunities to students for public interest summer work. Therefore, many of the agencies who participate in the fair are able to hire students at no cost to the agency. “This is a real win-win for students looking to gain hands-on legal experience and agencies who do not have the budget for paid summer interns,” said Maligno. In addition, Loan Forgiveness information is available to those alumni who are pursuing careers in the public sector.
