Fifteen
years ago, Touro Law Center, under the guidance of Dean Howard Glickstein, made
plans to build a new law school on an integrated law campus. This initiative
would require a capital campaign to raise the funds to build a new facility.
Capital Campaigns are usually preceded by a feasibility study designed to gauge
the success of such an undertaking. However, Dean Glickstein decided to forge
ahead without instituting a feasibility study – no such study would be able to
measure or calculate the determination of the Touro community or their will to
change the delivery of legal education, integrating the courtroom and the
classroom.
With a very young alumni base and more than a few skeptics, Touro Law moved
forward with a Capital Campaign, headed by Campaign Chair Bruce Gould in 1997.
To accomplish our mission, we approached alumni, the public sector, and the
private sector including corporations and foundations. We have used special
events and individual solicitation as well as traditional fundraising
techniques. Eventually, we were able to raise in excess of $17 million – a fact
and a figure of which the Touro community is very proud.
Touro Law wants to continue the building campaign and continue to raise funds to
name various rooms and areas within our beautiful new school. We urge you to
learn more about Touro Law Center – our new facility, our innovative
curriculum, and our dedicated students, faculty, administration, alumni and
friends – and become part of our community.
