b'HONORABLE GARY R. BROWNU.S. District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York Raised on Long Island, Judge Gary Brown spent his undergraduate years at Columbia College and studied law at Yale Law School. After graduation, he returned to Long Island and has spent his entire legal career serving our community. Judge Brown began as a law clerk to the Honorable Jacob Mishler in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York; then served as an Assistant United States Attorney in that district, ultimately rising to become the Chief of the Long Island Criminal Division. Judge Brown entered private practice, working as Chief Counsel for CA Technologies, then the regions largest computer company, where he eventually became Director of Litigation and Chief Compliance Officer. In 2011, Judge Brown was appointed as a Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District Court of New York, serving in its Long Island courthouse until 2019, when, following nomination by the President, the Senate confirmed his appointment to serve as a United States District Court Judge. Judge Brown has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his commitment to public service, including Superior Performance as an AUSA by the Executive Office of United States Attorneys; the Prosecutor of the Year Award by the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation; the Champion for Children Award by Parents for Megans Law; the Inspector Generals Integrity Award, by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; the National Group Achievement Award by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association; and the Chief Postal Inspectors Award by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Judge Brown has also devoted great time and energy to our Touro community. Judge Brown first participated in Touros Collaborative Court Program in 2010. He took the time to meet with students at the federal courthouse and speak with them about the legal profession, including the role of attorneys and the professional identities they should seek to develop. Even after he was appointed to the bench, Judge Brown has continued to help our students on their journey to becoming lawyers, primarily through participating in our Court Observation program and serving as a judge for Touros National Moot Court competition. In 2016, Touro had the honor of hosting the ceremony at which Judge Brown was awarded the first Honorable Jack B. Weinstein Mediation/Settlement Award recognizing his important work in handling litigation arising out of Hurricane Sandy. And today, were delighted to have Judge Brown as our 2023 Commencement Keynote Speaker.'
