Before joining Touro Law Center’s Academic Excellence and Bar Success department, Tom Faiella was a tutor and content developer for Kaplan Test Prep. Working in a variety of roles, and with dozens of bar exam students, he taught all aspects of the Uniform Bar Exam ("UBE"), as well as state-specific bar exams. He developed materials and presentations for workshops on bar exam essay writing and multiple-choice strategies, and supported students by creating personalized study approaches and exam strategies.

Prior to his career in higher education, Professor Faiella started as a bankruptcy paralegal at a small firm in New Hampshire. After passing the Maine and Massachusetts bar exams, he worked as an associate attorney at a general litigation firm in Maine, representing clients ranging from individuals to local business owners and chambers of commerce. He subsequently relocated to New York and passed the New York bar exam. There, he completed a clerkship at the Second Department’s Appellate Division and later returned to private practice at a toxic torts defense firm.

Professor Faiella is a graduate of Boston University School of Law, where he was a Dean’s Scholar, a student government representative, and a competitor on several moot court teams, including the American Constitution Society Moot Court Team and the Environmental Law Moot Court Team. As an undergraduate Presidential Scholar at the University of New Hampshire ("UNH”) he received a research grant to study rhetorical approaches to jury trials in local courts, and captained (and later coached) UNH’s mock trial team to its first American Mock Trial Association national appearances, winning regional and national Best Attorney awards along the way.

In addition to holding (inactive) licenses to practice in Maine and before several federal courts, Professor Faiella is currently licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, where he serves as an attorney-coach for a public high school’s mock trial team. He resides in Harlem with his wife and daughter.
