Patricia Salkin, professor of law and former dean of Touro Law, received the 2025 William A. Kaplin Award for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy Scholarship at the National Conference on Law and Higher Education held in March 2025. The award recognizes scholars who have published works on education law that embrace the intersection of law and policy.

Salkin began her career in academia in 1990. She joined Touro Law in 2012 as the fifth dean of the Law Center where she served for four years. She was appointed Provost of Touro University’s Graduate and Professional Divisions and subsequently Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of Touro University. She recently authored a book, “May It Please the Campus: Lawyers Leading Higher Education” that was also the focus of a groundbreaking symposium on leadership in higher education held at Touro.

Salkin is a former co-chair of the NYS Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Legal Education. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates, and holds and has held many leadership positions within both the ABA and the New York State Bar Association. In addition to her recent work in the higher education arena, she is a nationally recognized scholar on land use law and zoning and has authored hundreds of books, articles, and columns.

Salkin stated, “Bill Kaplin was a pioneer in the field of higher education and the law, basically the first to recognize it as an area of specialization. Thank you to the selection committee and Professor Peter Lake - an incredible surprise and high honor.”
