Touro Law to Host Public Interest/Government Career Fair
Annual Event to be Held February 7, 2012 for Touro Law Students and Alumni
January 17, 2012Touro Law Center’s Office of Career Services in conjunction with the Public Advocacy Center will host the fifth annual Touro Law Public Interest/Government Career Fair on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm at the law school. More than 100 non-profit and government agencies were invited to participate in the event, most of which are Long Island organizations. The event is open to Touro Law students and alumni at no charge.
“This job fair is a great opportunity for Touro Law students and alumni as well as the participating agencies,” said Thomas Maligno, Director of Public Interest and Executive Director of the Public Advocacy Center at Touro Law. “Our students and alumni are able to learn about a wide variety of opportunities available to them and participating agencies are able to find qualified assistance. Each year the fair proves successful with nearly 100 job offers, both permanent and summer, offered to students and alumni.”
Touro Law offers financial aid, work study and Fellowship opportunities to students for public interest summer work. Therefore, many of the agencies who participate in the fair are able to hire students at no cost to the agency. “This is a real win-win for students looking to gain hands-on legal experience and agencies who do not have the budget for paid summer interns,” said Maligno. In addition, Loan Forgiveness information is available to those alumni who are pursuing careers in the public sector.
