Youth Law Day to be Held at Touro Law

Touro Law Center will host Youth Law Day for students from Wyandanch and Brentwood High Schools on Wednesday, October 30, 2012. The program is co-sponsored by the New York State Bar Association Committee on Diversity & Inclusion, Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association, Long Island Hispanic Bar Association and Touro Law Center.

Youth Law Day was designed to expose minority students to the great potential of law-related careers. Approximately 75 high school students are expected to attend. They will hear from Touro Law Dean Salkin, participate in mock law school classes, take a guided tour of the state court building, and hear a keynote address from the Honorable Cheryl Joseph-Cherry, Support Magistrate of the Family Court of the State of New York. High school students will have an opportunity to mingle with attorneys and current law students during lunch.

“This program is extremely inspiring and valuable for all of those involved,” said Dean Salkin. “It is remarkable to see high school students learn about opportunities in the legal profession or reaffirm their early decisions to pursue their dreams in the field of law. I think this program has the potential to make a difference for these students who in turn will make an impact on their communities. It can be truly influential.”
