Trial Advocacy Team Makes Strong Showing in Regional Competition

March 13, 2013

The Touro Law Trial Advocacy team recently participated in the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Advocacy Competition in New York City. The team, consisting of third year students Stefanie Guarino, Seth Koslow and Jared Scotto and second year student Avi Goldstein, scored 5th in overall points scored and placed 7th in the regional competition. The team was coached by Professor Lynne Kramer and Adjunct Professor Steven Kunken.

“Our students worked hard training and preparing for this competition. They had the opportunity to hone their trial advocacy skills while gaining experience that will benefit them when they enter the world of practice upon graduation. We are extremely proud of their hard work and performance,” said Dean Patricia Salkin.

AAJ seeks to inspire excellence in trial advocacy through training and education for both law students and practicing attorneys. The association accomplishes this goal in part by sponsoring the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition, an annual nationwide mock trial competition. The competition is an exceptional opportunity for law students to develop and practice their trial advocacy skills before distinguished members of the bar and bench.

“This team was really savvy, smart and well prepared,” said faculty coach Lynne Kramer. “I believe that these students could set foot in court and successfully try a case the day after they are admitted.”
