Touro Law Center Scholarship Packages for Veteran Students Takes Off at American Airpower Museum
April 9, 2013Touro Law Center rolled out a new financial assistance and scholarship program for veterans, on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY.
The Long Island school is offering applicants who have served in the U.S. military a package that includes scholarships, federal tuition and housing assistance and a reduced-rate prep course for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), required for law school applicants. Touro Law Dean Patricia Salkin said the package, which in many cases will provide the equivalent of full-tuition scholarships, “is intended recognize the dedication and sacrifice of those who have served in the military, and to help the school better address the legal needs of the veterans’ community.” For details on the program, please visit www.tourolaw.edu/vetsresources.
The announcement was hosted by the school’s new Alumni Veterans Council, comprised of graduates who are currently on active duty or who have served their country. Members have served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. Council members mentor current students who are veterans; assist in recruiting applicants with military backgrounds; work to assure continued funding for Touro Law’s Veterans’ and Servicemembers’ Rights Clinic, which provides a wide range of legal services to veterans and active duty personnel; and serve as advisors to Law Center leadership in developing new initiatives to recruit veteran-students, and to better meet the legal needs of veterans and service members.
