Touro Law Receives $250K in Endowed Scholarship Support from the Kermit Gitenstein Foundation
March 18, 2014Touro Law Center Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce a $250,000 grant from the Kermit Gitenstein Foundation to establish scholarships for two students who will be designated as Gitenstein Scholars annually. One Gitenstein Scholar is designated for a qualified student with an interest in health law and the second will be for a qualified student interested in aging and longevity law.
“I am extremely thankful to the Kermit Gitenstein Foundation and our Board member Steven Schlesinger for this generous donation that will directly benefit Touro Law students,” said Touro Law Dean Patricia Salkin. “This donation marks the largest endowed scholarship gift we have received to date. The designation of Gitenstein Scholars in aging and longevity law as well as health and policy complement the Law Center’s commitment to preparing students to practice in these areas of the law. These scholarships will help strengthen our programs in those areas as we continue to develop our centers of excellence.”
Touro Law Board of Governors member Steven Schlesinger, a trustee of the Kermit Gitenstein Foundation stated, “I am pleased to provide these funds to Touro Law. I believe strongly this contribution will make a great impact for the school’s Health Law and Aging and Longevity Law programs and will benefit both Touro Law students and the legal community at large. I look forward to continuing to work with Touro Law for years to come.”
Touro Law Center maintains a generous scholarship program, designed to recognize and reward exceptional academic achievement and potential of both current and entering students. In the past year, Touro Law has added, through the generosity of alumni and friends, more than a dozen new endowed scholarships for current students in addition to the Law Center’s existing scholarships.

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center’s 185,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to both a state and a federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York.
