Touro Law Creates $50K Emergency Fund for Students in Need Due to Covid Crisis

Touro Law Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to announce the creation of a fund to provide money to students in crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Access Lex Institute has provided a generous grant to Touro in the amount of $25K and the balance of the $50,000 fund has come from the generous donations of alumni, faculty, board members, friends, and other sources of emergency funding.  

“There is no way to know the full impact this pandemic is having on our student body. We do know that many of our students are in immediate financial crisis or distress as a result of it, and student well-being is our primary concern,” stated Dean Langan. “I am proud of the Touro community for coming together to offer help and am thankful to Access Lex Institute for their generosity. Every dollar we have raised will go directly to our students.”

AccessLex Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping aspiring lawyers find their path to professional success, created a $5 million Law Student Emergency Relief Fund to provide direct resources to law students during this unique time. They provided grants to nonprofits and every state-affiliated ABA-approved law school in the nation, with monies going directly to each school's designated student emergency fund.

The law school’s own on-line fundraising campaign, “Touro Together” held earlier this month successfully generated donations ranging from $10 to $1,000 from close to one hundred individuals.  

Students are able to apply online for emergency grant support up to $1000 per student. Emergency grants are being considered on a rolling basis and will be distributed until the fund is depleted. Applications are being reviewed by a Committee whose members were appointed by Dean Langan.
