Touro Law Celebrates 39th Annual Commencement
Graduates Enjoyed Virtual Commencement as Well as In-Person Convocation Ceremony
June 2, 2021Touro Law held its 39th annual commencement on Sunday, May 30 in a virtual ceremony and held an in-person convocation for graduates on Friday, May 28 at the Law Center, honoring 111 JD candidates as well as 28 JD recipients and 3 LLM recipients who completed their degree requirements in December 2020.
Graduates heard from Dean and Professor of Law Elena Langan, President and CEO of Touro College and University System Dr. Alan Kadish, Provost and Professor of Law Patricia E. Salkin, as well valedictorian for the full-time division Kristy Harrison and valedictorian for the part time division Garrett Thomas Wakefield. During the in-person convocation, graduates heard from the Ronni D. Cohen Class Orator, Kayleigh Gorman as well as Class Professor, Associate Dean Myra Berman.
“Celebrating the exemplary Class of 2021 and their profound achievements could not be a better conclusion to Touro Law’s 40th anniversary year,” said Elena Langan, Touro Law Dean. “In a year filled with uncertainty and unprecedented challenges, this group has carried out the very leadership, values, and hard work that this institution prides itself upon. The future is in good hands and we are very proud of them.”
Full-time valedictorian Harrison stated, “What makes this day so special is the realization that we all achieved the same goal and that we helped each other along the way.”
Additionally, Johan A. LoNigro was recognized at the salutatorian for the full-time division, while Kevin Richard Garb was recognized as the salutatorian for the part-time division.
To further the celebrations and acknowledgement of their accomplishments, each student received their own personalized celebration web page, where family and friends posted pictures, videos, and messages to the graduates. Lawn signs and commencement programs were also mailed to each graduate.
The distinguished graduates completed a combined 31,000 hours of pro bono practice, applying skills learned throughout their years at Touro to serve their communities. Following graduation, many students will go on to practice law in various areas such as criminal law, family law, real estate, and personal injury, among others applying important Touro values that were instilled in them throughout their education.
