Touro Law Receives $200K in New Scholarship Funds

Touro Law Center Dean Elena B. Langan is pleased to announce $200,000 in new scholarship commitments received this past semester. The scholarships, along with several other generous donations and Charitable Gift Annuity agreements, will translate to significant student and program support. 

“Our donors and alumni have been exceptionally generous providing scholarships and program support for our students and our law school,” stated Dean Langan. “We are grateful to all who are dedicated to helping ease the financial burden of law school for our students. Each donation is truly an investment in our future.”

Some of our new scholarship gifts include: 

Edward Lake, class of 1992, has made a $25,000 donation to establish the Rebecca Lake Scholarship to be awarded to a student interested in protecting the rights of the disabled. This scholarship was established in honor of Edward’s daughter.

Todd Zimmer, class of 1993, established a $25,000 named scholarship to be awarded to a student interested in Matrimonial and Family Law. Award criteria includes strong academics, leadership qualities, and financial need.

Steve Malito, class of 1996, and his firm Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLLP established a $25,000 named Diversity Scholarship to be awarded each year to an outstanding, a student who is a member of an underrepresented group on a competitive basis. Award criteria will include strong academics, leadership qualities and financial need. 

Alex and Diane Maltese, 2001 graduates, established the Carl P. Maltese Memorial Scholarship with a $25,000 gift in memory of Alex's father, Carl, who founded The Law Office of Carl Maltese. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who graduated high school in Suffolk County.

William Gliem, class of 2002, and his wife Virginia Rumore made a gift of $25,000 to establish the William Gliem and Virginia Rumore Scholarship to be awarded annually to a Touro Law student for whom the scholarship will have a significant impact on their financial ability to attend law school.

Dean Emeritus Howard Glickstein has made a $25,000 commitment to establish the Lawrence Newman Scholarship Endowment in memory of Touro Board member Lawrence Newman. The Scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis to a Touro Law student with strong academics who has shown an interest in public and/or community service. 

Touro Board member and supporter Robert Abrams of Abrams Fensterman has made a commitment to fund to a $25,000 scholarship for Touro Law students. 

Additionally, we have received scholarship commitments from alumni and Board members to bring the total of new scholarship gifts this past semester above $200,000. Additional donors include the Honorable Chris Coshignano, class of 1990, for a student in the area of land use or real estate law, Board member Cliff Richner for a first-generation student, and Kristen Woll, class of 2020, toward the Women’s Empowerment Scholarship Fund, created in 2020 as a part of the Law School’s 40th Anniversary Celebration. 

Touro Law has always offered scholarship support to both incoming and current students. In the past 10 years the law school has added more than 67 named scholarships to those scholarships awarded administratively.
