Touro Law Awards More than a Half Million Dollars in Work Study Money and Fellowships to Students
June 16, 2010Central Islip, NY - Touro Law is pleased to announce they have awarded more than a half million dollars in work study money and fellowships to students this summer – one of the largest paid law school summer internship programs in the country.
"Collectively the positions held by our students this summer truly reflect the mission of Touro Law Center and our commitment to scholarship, professionalism in a real world setting and public service,” said Michele Kaminski, Director of Financial Aid at Touro Law “Most importantly, and on a significantly greater scale, employers and people in need of assistance get to see first hand the drive, passion and dedication of our students."
The program enables 167 students to be paid for work at a wide range of public interest organizations and government agencies throughout the country. Students are currently working at various U.S Attorney’s Offices and in the District Attorney’s Offices in Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Westchester, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and Ohio. They are also clerking for federal and state judges, and at agencies such as Legal Aid, Long Island Housing Authority, Mental Hygiene Legal Service, LeGal Foundation, EEOC, NYPD Law Department, United States Department of Justice, Navy-Jag, , Department of Home Land Security, NYS Special Council for Ethics, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, just to name a few.

Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center’s 185,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to both a state and a federal courthouse in Central Islip, New York. Touro Law’s proximity to the courthouses, coupled with programming developed to integrate the courtroom into the classroom, provide a one-of-a kind learning model for law students, combining a rigorous curriculum taught by expert faculty with a practical courtroom experience. Touro College was established in 1971 primarily to enrich the Jewish heritage, and to serve the larger American community. Approximately 17,500 students are currently enrolled in its various schools and divisions.
