Touro Law to Host Public Interest Job Fair

Third Annual Fair to be Held February 9, 2010 for Touro Law Students and Alumni

December 14, 2009

Central Islip, NY – Touro Law Center is pleased to announce the third annual Touro Law Public Interest / Government Career Fair to be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm at the law school. More than 100 non-profit and government agencies were invited to participate in the event, most of which are Long Island organizations. Last year, more than 100 offers of employment, both permanent and summer, were made to Touro students and alumni at the fair.

“This job fair is a great opportunity for Touro Law students and alumni as well as the participating agencies,” said Thomas Maligno, Director of Public Interest and Executive Director of the Public Advocacy Center at Touro Law. “Our students and alumni are able to learn about a wide variety of opportunities available to them and participating agencies are able to find qualified assistance.”

Touro Law offers financial aid, work study and Fellowship opportunities to students for public interest summer work. Therefore, many of the agencies who participate in the fair are able to hire students at no cost to the agency. “This is a real win-win for students looking to gain hands-on legal experience and agencies who do not have the budget for paid summer interns,” said Maligno.

In addition, Loan Forgiveness information is available to those alumni who are pursuing careers in the pubic sector. This past summer, in a climate when job opportunities for law students were became increasingly more difficult to find, Touro Law proudly offered fellowships and work study opportunities to 140 students who expressed interest in working in the public sector.
