“Animal Law for Pet Lovers” Presentation at Touro Law
September 14, 2011Central Islip, NY – The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) of Touro Law Center will host a presentation, “Animal Law for Pet Lovers,” on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Speakers include Congressman Steve Israel; Suffolk County Legislator Jon Cooper; Nassau Assistant District Attorney Jed Painter; and consumer protection and animal law attorneys Carol Ryder ’08 of Northport and Anthony Ballato ’88 of Massapequa.
Topics to be discussed include Congressman Israel’s pending animal abuse legislation, as well as other animal-related bills in Congress; pet trusts as part of one’s estate plan; animal lemon laws; animal abuse legislation in New York; animal abuser registry; puppy and dog rating protection act; dangerous dog proceedings and dog bite laws; the connection between animal abuse and violence against humans; and how people can change current federal, state and local laws.
