Practicing Employment Discrimination Law - LAWN817

3 Credits

This course exposes students to the practice of employment discrimination law through simulations and experiential learning activities intended to give students the experience of client representation in this rapidly evolving area of law practice. We focus in particular on recent changes in the law and recent current events and their impact on the workplace: DEI initiatives; sex and race-based micro-aggression; the use of AI and algorithms for workplace decision-making; LGBTQ workplace rights; religious accommodation; and political expression in the workplace. The curriculum integrates doctrine, theory, skills and legal ethics, and students will look at each problem from a range of real-life perspectives – the individual client, the corporate client, co-counsel, opposing counsel, the mediator, and the judge/jury.
