1st Amendment Book Censorship Event
About
1st Amendment Book Censorship Event
Date/Time(s)
Tuesday, September 19
- 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Location
Faculty Conference Room/Barristers Dining Room
Description
Presented by the TLC ACLU.
Our organization, like its national cousin the ACLU, has been focused on LGBTQ+ issues. As we all know recent state
legislation across the country has put the freedom to speak, read, or write about LGBTQ+ topics in jeopardy. Disney, for
example, has a substantial free speech defense against Gov. DeSantis for targeting its support of the LGBTQ+.
Furthermore, local book bans have banned books on the holocaust and other “sensitive subjects.” This so-called “anti-woke”
movement comes in the form of grass root parent’s organizations, powerful state governments, and well-funded interest
groups.
Guest speakers include:
Jonathan Glater, Professor of Law at Berkeley Law, and Dr. Jonathan Friedman, PEN America Director of Free Expression and Education Programs.
