Judaica Collection

The Judaica Collection, with materials representing Jewish law, history, and philosophy from biblical times to the present day, supports Law Center courses on Jewish law, as well as the Jewish Law Institute and the Institute on Holocaust Law and International Human Rights.

Included in the collection are editions of important Jewish texts in English and Hebrew, including the:
  • Tanakh or Jewish Bible
  • Mishna
  • Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmudim
  • Mishneh Torah of Maimonides
  • Turim
  • Shulhan Arukh and halakhah (legal literature)
  • Commentaries, novellae, andresponsa of acknowledged Rabbinic scholars

Modern works on issues of Jewish law, philosophy, and history are also available. The collection includes extensive materials related to anti-Semitism, with a special emphasis on the Holocaust, as well as the Lillie Goldstein Collection, a traveling library that may be borrowed by law schools without such resources wishing to offer courses in Jewish law.

Generous grants from the CAMBR Foundation and the Lucius N. Littauer Foundation have greatly enriched the collection of both Jewish law and Holocaust materials.

Located on the third floor of the library, the inviting Judaica Room provides a quiet and hospitable place for study and reflection, with a casual arrangement of comfortable couches and chairs near two banks of windows and numerous study tables adjacent to the stack area.

Special Guests of the Judaica Collection

Although the primary purpose of the collection is to support the research needs of our faculty and students, scholars and members of the Jewish community are welcome to use the collection by appointment.
