About
Professor Subotnik was both an attorney licensed in New York and a CPA in Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and his JD from Columbia University. After working in the investment banking field, Professor Subotnik began his teaching career at the University of Illinois in the accounting department, followed by Seton Hall Law School, the University of Santa Clara Law School, and the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, before joining Touro Law Center in 1984.
Before announcing his retirement in 2024, Professor Subotnik taught courses in Income Tax, Estate Tax, Taxation of Corporations, Trusts and Estates, Race, Gender and the Law, and Accounting for Lawyers to scores of Touro students. A prolific writer, he actively pursued his scholarly interests, which included employment discrimination, taxation, accounting, and gender and race relations, among other areas. Professor Subotnik was a friend to many and a mentor to many Touro graduates during his decades at Touro Law and will be greatly missed.
Professor Subotnik leaves behind his wife of almost 55 years, Rose, and his two children Eva and Joseph, as well as several grandchildren and other extended family members.
