Becoming a NY Lawyer
Becoming licensed to practice law in New York requires passage of the bar exam as well as a number of other requirements: see BOLE- OFFICIAL PAGE NEW YORK STATE BAR EXAMINATION (nybarexam.org).
New York and nearly 40 other states as well as the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands employ as their bar exam the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). The UBE is a two-day exam covering a range of law school course topics in three testing formats: essays, multiple-choice questions, and performance tests which are practical lawyering exams.

One great advantage of the UBE is that scores may be portable between different states.
